Ministry of Defense participates in ‘Watan’ exercise

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence participated in the ‘Watan’ exercise, a five-day event organized by the Security Committee for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to ensure readiness and preparedness to secure the world’s top sporting event.

The exercise, which kicked off on October 23, took place with the participation of the various military, civil and organizational authorities concerned with hosting the tournament, and a number of forces from allied countries.

‘Watan’ aims to ensure concerned authorities could assume their regular duties while undertaking the additional tasks entrusted to them throughout the tournament, assessing how fast they can react to emergencies and activate the command and control and joint cooperation mechanisms to integrate military and civil efforts to execute the required tasks. The exercise also aims to enhance cooperation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge among participating forces from various partner countries.

It is the largest of its kind in terms of the number of participating military and civilian authorities, in addition to the diversity of scenarios in terms of the potential risks and challenges that may emerge during the tournament.
